About the Partners

The Puget Sound Starts Here campaign is a collaborative approach to protecting and improving Puget Sound health. No single agency or organization runs the Puget Sound Starts Here campaign; it is a team approach and involves the efforts and support of many partners.

Puget Sound Starts Here

A brief history of Puget Sound Starts Here

The Puget Sound Starts Here campaign began in 2009 as the result of collaboration of two public awareness initiatives: one led by a coalition of municipalities known as STORM (Stormwater Outreach for Regional Municipalities) with funding from the Washington State Department of Ecology; and the other was part of the Puget Sound Partnership’s Action Agenda for the recovery of Puget Sound.

The collaboration utilizes the overlapping geography (Puget Sound) of the two efforts, ensures consistent region-wide messages, and minimizes the possibility of redundancy. The STORM/Ecology team brings program momentum, applied stormwater and communications knowledge, and an organized network of 83 local governments.

Pollution in Puget Sound threatens our food, our water, and our livelihoods, and we continue to damage Puget Sound at a greater rate than we are fixing it.

The Puget Sound Partnership brings the diverse membership of the ECO Net (Education, Communication and Outreach Network), its charge for regional planning and communications, additional fiscal resources, and a long-term home for many of the campaign’s components.
